Rotarian Bob Baird

Born in wartime Liverpool on 5th November 1940 after a bomb hit a munitions train resulting in a massive explosion causing his mum to go into labour.

At the age of sixteen he served in the Fleet Air Arm on the Ark Royal where he trained in communications and electronics. Two years later he went to work for Hawker Sidley in North Wales and after moving to Leeds began a very sucessful career as a computer designer working for a multi-national company.

It was here he joined Shipley Rotary Club and so began a relentless quest to serve both his community and the family of rotary in general.

His move to Northern Ireland was our gain and on joining the Rotary Club of Enniskillen he has almost single handedly been the motivation behind raising well in excess of £20,000 for Fermanagh Hospice. The Ladies Midnight Walk contributed most to this fund and saw entrants rise to 827 ladies in only it's second year. This huge sucess is down to the determination of this Rotarian.

On an international propective the Rotary Cub of Enniskillen has funded more than 25 Shelter boxes to disaster areas of the world: Haiti and more recently Pakistan and again the effort by this Rotarian has been outstanding.

He is currently the Child Protection Officer for Rotary District 1160, a role he has embraced with sensitivity and logic.
